ALICAM is appropriate to use for all dog breeds. It has been used safely in dogs as small as 5.5kg (12 pounds). The veterinarian should decide whether an individual animal is suited to swallow and eventually pass the capsule. Please review the ALICAM™ Instructions for Use for contraindications.

Not necessarily. While ALICAM is effective in diagnosing the underlying causes behind perceptible GI symptoms, it also serves as a tool to identify diseases that may not be clinically apparent. For instance, ALICAM may be helpful when used as a senior screening exam, or to detect disease in high-risk patients like those taking chronic steroids or anti-inflammatory medications for orthopedic issues.

Very little patient preparation is required ahead of administering the capsule. We recommend that the patient not eat any food or treats or play with chew toys for 16-24 hours before the procedure and 8 hours after the procedure to allow for the capsule to get an unobstructed view of the GI tract.
No, the ALICAM capsule does not require costly and bulky hardware to record the images taken of the GI tract. All images are stored in the capsule itself and are downloaded through a reader after the capsule has been recovered.
With limited exceptions, the patient may return home and resume regular activities. There are certain activities that the patient should avoid while having the ALICAM capsule in its system, including having an MRI exam and boarding an aircraft.
The capsule should be cleaned per the ALICAM™ Instructions for Use and stored in the vial provided. Most veterinarians utilize Infiniti Medical’s expertise in performing the reading of capsule data, but if desired, the veterinarian may purchase the proprietary ALICAM hardware and software to perform readings and diagnoses.
A clean capsule is inserted into the ALICAM reader and a video file of the 360-degree images is downloaded for playback on the ALICAM software. The software allows for easy navigation of the capsule’s journey through the GI tract with the ability to incorporate images of areas of concern into a report that can be included in the patient’s medical record.
